Předkládaná práce se soustředí na diskriminativní praktiky v rámci internetového prostoru a snaží se vyvrátit časté přesvědčení o rovnosti a apolitičnosti internetu. This thesis focuses on discriminatory practices in online space. The work tries to refute common beliefs about equal and apolitical access to the internet. The purpose is to highlight the spreading of stereotypes in the Czech internet environment and to show how a group can be oppressed on the basis of ethnicity through cyberspace. The thesis examines the construction and representation of race and ethnicity in an online environment and thus sheds some light on the negative and discriminatory aspects of cyberspace, which is commonly viewed as a free and equal environment. The purpose of the thesis is to explain how stereotypes are disseminated through internet discussion forums and the main motivation for negotiating stereotypical messages in this particular environment. Another significant question addressed in the thesis concerns the connection between racism and the spread of stereotypes. The focus is placed on the Czech discussion boards, where it identifies how stereotypes are used against the Roma population. The framework of discussion presented is the demarcation of selectively open public spaces online on the basis of stereotypes and racism. As far as methodology is concerned, the thesis is based on discourse analysis of gathered data.
