The aim
The aim of the thesis is to assess whether behavioural economics insights can positively affect the outcome of policies targeting environmental sustainability issues.
Suggested structure and methods used
The theoretical part of the thesis will utilize a literature review. It will introduce and analyse topics related to environmental sustainability, BE and waste management. These concepts will be analysed from the perspective of different economic theories. There will be a discussion about the interconnection of the environment and the economy.
The practical part of the thesis will focus on the environmental policies targeting waste management systems. The insights from behavioural economics related to individuals’ behaviour and policy design will be discussed here. Finally, there will be an analysis of the efficacy of two waste management instruments: the deposit-return system (DRS) and the pay-as-you-throw system (PAYT).
