In the digital age, political memes have emerged as a significant form of communication, combining elements of popular culture with political discourse. This thesis explores the potential of political memes to strengthen democratic processes by serving as a meeting point between citizenship and popular culture. By examining the ways in which political memes facilitate engagement, discourse, and activism among diverse audiences, this study aims to uncover how these seemingly trivial digital artifacts contribute to the democratic consolidation. By integrating theories of citizenship, popular culture, and democratic theory, this paper provides a comprehensive analysis of how political memes can act as catalysts for democratic engagement. Through a mixed-methodological approach, including survey and interviews with meme creators and recipients of memes, the research investigates the communicative power of memes in Polish political contexts. Moreover, the study highlights the role of memes in lowering the barriers to political engagement, making political discourse more accessible and relatable to younger generations and marginalized groups. Ultimately, this research underscores the transformative potential of political memes, proposing that they serve as vital tools for fostering a more inclusive and participatory democratic society.
