The principal aim of this thesis is to elevate the horror genre above its pop-cultural aspect and bring it to academic attention. Zadání práce
This thesis will use analysis of historical sources presenting the cultural perceptions formed during American colonization and its westward expansion. Their application horror works will highlight the genre’s connection not only to popular culture but also to historical cultural perceptions. The thesis will postulate that the concepts arising during the colonization are still embedded in the fabric of American culture and have strongly influenced the horror genre. The principal aim of this thesis is to elevate the horror genre and bring it to academic attention. The thesis will aim towards establishing the genre as a rich and complex product of cultural perceptions arising from the American colonization and, therefore, a valuable source for contemporary literary-cultural research. The sources used will primarily be works of Puritan scholars, community leaders, and writers concerned with the topic of American colonization.
