Abstract
The principal aim of this thesis is to elevate the horror genre above its pop-cultural aspect and bring it to academic attention. The thesis aims towards establishing the genre as a rich and complex product of cultural perceptions arising from the American colonization and, therefore, a valuable source for contemporary literary-cultural research.
