Anotace

Práca sa zaoberá diskurzívnou konštrukciou „self“ a „other“ v medzištátnych sporoch Číny, konkrétne v sporoch o znárodnenie ostrovov Diaoyu/Senkaku, arbitráž v juhočínskom mori iniciovanej Filipínami a rozmiestnení protiraketového systému THAAD v Južnej Kórei. Metódou použitou v práci je kritická diskurzívna analýza novinových článkov v oficiálnom denníku Renmin Ribao.

Abstract

This thesis deals with the question of discursive construction of the “self” and the “other” in China’s interstate disputes, including the dispute around the nationalization of the Diaoyu/Senkaku islands, the Arbitration in the South China Sea initiated by the Philippines and the deployment of THAAD missile defence system in South Korea. The thesis aims to analyse the discourse in the Chinese media regarding the representation of state actors with which Chinese government has found itself in conflict. The question of Chinese nationalism has been given growing academic attention in context of the growing power of China and its alleged assertive behavior in following its national interests vis-à-vis other states. Media as a tool of the authoritarian government of China plays a crucial role in constructing a discourse of the enemy and aiding in the creation of images of the self and the other.
