On the Frontline of Redemption: SNCC and Its Contribution to the Civil Rights Movement, 1961 - 1965

Abstract

My work traces the formation in the United States of America of an autonomous student-led organization named SNCC (read "snick"), the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. It shows the process of its assuming the role of the prime mover of the whole Civil Rights Movement in the early through mid-1960s. It depicts how SNCC staff designed and carried out most of the major campaigns in that period. At the end, the thesis also tries to give an explanation for its gradual breakdown.
