Master's thesis
Genome-scale bioanalysis of clines
Bioanalýza klín na genomové úrovni
Abstract
Abstract
Genome-scale analysis enables an observation of evolutionary processes such as gene flow, adaptation to changing environments, and formation of new species. These processes influence hybridization, speciation and genetic diversity among populations. An important approach to studying these patterns is cline analysis, which helps us understand how traits or alleles change across geographical areas. …more
Thesis description
Human mediated biological introductions and range changes driven by the climate crisis have led to increased interest in analysing wavefronts and clines in traits observed in nature.
Previous softwares for model-based cline fitting are however either no longer supported or limited in the models they consider.
The student is going to study cline models, differentiate suitable models for a cline fitting package, construct those models using Python and test their properties.
The student is going to upload the cline fitting package to github. The student will compose a manual for basic use of the package.
The student will study kernel smoothing and genome scale visualisation. They will propose a visualisation tool in Python suited to presenting cline analyses at genome scale. They will evaluate the suitability of kernel smoothing of cline fits along chromosomes for these visualisations.
