Thesis format: Research paper.The thesis will examine the role of the European Union (EU) in the peace process between Israel and the Palestinian authority. EU policies in this regard (set in directives and decisions), will be put under scrutiny, alongside actions taken by the EU special envoy for the Middle East peace process (‘EU envoy’) in order to implement goals set by the EU. Put in other words, actions taken by the EU envoy will be presented and subsequently analysed against the backdrop of the policies set by the EU towards the conflict. An estimate of their effectiveness will lead to a conclusion concerning the contribution of the EU to de-escalation/the settlement of the conflict. Sources: European Council. (1996).
