Masaryk University is one of the partners of CyberSec4Europe [1], a research project focused on delivering solutions enhancing security and privacy of EU citizens in several sectors and cybersecurity domains. One of the planned deliverables of Masaryk University is an Open tool portal. This portal is aimed at a specific type of users and should contain recommendations for open-source tools focused on security and privacy.

The goal of this work is to map the landscape of basic open tools and operating systems for end users keen on security and privacy protection, analyze suitable adepts and provide a suggested set of tools to be included in the Open tool portal. The focus will consider two types of users - beginner and intermediate.

To achieve the goal, the work will include:

• definition of beginner and intermediate user types,
• analysis of operating systems and available tools focused on data-at-rest encryption, password management and e-mail communication (web browsing is left out of the scope of this work),
• comparative review of selected tools to illustrate benefits and drawbacks, and
• recommendations of usage for each user type.

Optional component of this work could also lead to a Live Linux distribution with the environment adjusted according to selected suggestions to serve as a demonstration for end-users.
