The Master thesis aims at examining female political participation in Slovakia and Taiwan from the 1990s until 2020. The study also analyses the relationship between voters’ gender preference and gender balance in politics in both countries. To satisfy the objectives of the thesis, a qualitative research study with semi-constructed interviews was held. Semi-constructed interviews were conducted with six participants in Taiwan and six participants in Slovakia. Analysis of the responses demonstrated correlation between voters’ gender preference and gender balance in politics. The results indicate that people in Taiwan, a country with higher female representation on all levels of government, tend not to consider gender while electing a politician. Low female representation in Slovak politics influences voters’ perceptions of candidate qualifications and vote choice. Further research is needed to determine whether this trend applies to society as a whole.
