Impact of the EEA on Norway-EU trade

Anotace

Cieľom tejto práce je analyzovať vplyv Európskeho hospodárskeho (EHP) na obchod Nórska s dôrazom na Európsku úniu (EÚ). Prvá časť práce sa zameriava na vzťahy Nórska a EÚ, ich obchodnú štruktúru a literárny rešerš gravitačného modelu medzinárodného obchodu. Analýza vplyvu EHP je založená na gravitačnom modeli s použitím Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimátoru s fixnými efektmi. Výsledky ukazujú, že vplyv EHP na obchod Nórska je významný a pozitívny.

Abstract

The goal of this thesis is to analyse the impact of the European Economic Area (EEA) on Norway’s trade, with an emphasis on the European Union (EU). The first part of the thesis focuses on Norway’s relationship with the EU, their trade patterns and a literature review of the gravity model of international trade. The goal of this thesis will be to analyse Norway's international trade and investigate the influence of agreements with the European Union on its trade. In the first part, the author will review the literature on trade agreements between Norway and the EU. In the following chapter, she will use available data and examine Norway’s imports, exports, as well as its main trading partners. To further explore the main determinants of Norway's international trade---with special empasis on the Agreement on European Economic Area---an analysis based on the gravity model will be conducted. Lastly, the results and findings will be evaluated and discussed with the available literature.
