Anotace

Nizozemsko, dříve sekularizovaná země, má 23 % křesel v parlamentu obsazená nábožensky založenými (či s náboženstvím spojenými) stra-nami, což způsobuje napětí mezi náboženskou doktrínou a progresiv-ními hodnotami. Tato bakalářská práce analyzuje způsob, jakým pětice nábožensky založených politických stran (CDA, CU, SGP, FvD a DENK) hlasuje v oblastech spojených se ženskými právy (interrupce, gende …více

Abstract

The Netherlands, a secularised country, has 23% of parliamentary seats held by religious(-affiliated) parties, creating tensions between religious doctrine and progressive values. Findings show some prioritise …více

Zadání práce
Equal treatment is a core value of Dutch society, enshrined in the first article of the country’s constitution. However, a tension exists between the right to freedom of religion and the prohibition of discrimination based on sex and gender. In the Netherlands, five religious or religiously affiliated parties are represented in its House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer der Staten-Generaal). These include three Christian parties, one Christian-affiliated party, and one Islam-affiliated party. Religious(-affiliated) parties frequently advocate religious values in their voting behaviour, affecting the outcome of motions. The Dutch House of Representatives often discusses women’s rights in its motions, with religious parties influencing their chances of adoption. Given this significant influence on policy outcomes, this thesis examines religious parties’ patterns and values in parliamentary decision-making, even in a secularized society. This thesis addresses the following research question: ‘How do Christian and Islamic political parties in the Netherlands reflect religious ideologies in their positions on women’s rights motions in the Dutch House of Representatives?’ To address this, it analyses four motions proposed in the Dutch House of Representatives between 2023 and 2025 on abortion access, the gender wage gap, feminist foreign policy, and the Istanbul Convention. It then examines the voting behaviour of the religious parties on these motions, to assess the alignment with religious values and the parties’ election programmes.
