Abstract

In the digital age, robust authentication mechanisms are crucial for secure access to smart services. More and more governmental administrative services are moving from the outdated paper-based form to the modern digital form, becoming smart IT services. A centralized system of identification and authentication of citizens via the Internet is required not only to implement the state-wide infrastructure of such smart services, but also to make it user-friendly and secure. This master’s thesis proposes the requirements for the state-wide authentication system, analyzes the possibility of the implementation of such a system using the existing security and data infrastructure of banks, and investigates the potential success within the context of the BankID System in Ukraine.
