Gender Differences as Reflected by the Structure of Noun Phrases in the Registers of the News and Academic Prose

Anotace

Předkládaná magisterská diplomová práce zkoumá vzorek nominálních frází z 30 akademických a 30 novinových článků psaných v americké angličtině a soustředí se na délku nominálních frází, pořadí modifikátorů a vybrané aspekty premodifikace a postmodifikace. Při hodnocení těchto jevů se práce snaží posoudit, zda tyto odrážejí pohlaví autora.

Abstract

The proposed master's thesis examines a sample of noun phrases from 30 academic and 30 news articles written in American English, with the focus on the noun phrase length, order, and selected aspects of premodification and postmodification. These phenomena are evaluated in order to determine whether they can reflect the gender of the authors.
