Objectives

The diploma thesis investigates an impact of ageing on informal long-term care. The main aim is to identify possible scenarios with respect to predictable changes in key variables, such as demographic structure of the population, and current major social changes such as increasing mobility, changing role of women, growth of individualism, etc. Two countries will be compared (Italy and the Czech Republic).

Three main questions should be answered:

1. Are current LTC systems based on a great deal of informal care sustainable?
2. Do both countries converge towards similar/same scenarios and policies?
3. What are possible solutions to make the systems sustainable?

The suggested structure

1. Introduction: the matter of ageing in both countries. Current models of LTC systems and their recent development. Similarities and differences.
2. The methodology and data. Quantitative analysis.
3. Observations and conclusions. Main challenges. Future scenarios. The possible ways to make the systems sustainable.
