This thesis deals with the features which differ Oscar Wildes tales from the classical fairy tale concept. The student in the thesis claims that through these features Wilde subverted the norms and hypocrisy of Victorian Society as well as the conventions of Anglican Church which affected the public opinion. According to the thesis, those untypical features for the fairy tale genre such as Christianity, socialistic tendencies,the concept of beauty,the rejection of a happy ending or homosexual points play an important role in Wildes tales because through them Wilde expresses his dissatisfaction with social inequality, perception of art and public notions of sex roles in Victorian England.
