How can non-governmental actors influence the process of immigrant integration policymaking and its implementation for the sake of asylum seekers? Right from the start, as it can be seen in the research question, the objective of this thesis is to understand how a non-state actor can influence public policy regarding immigrant integration in the selected area, and to identify best practices that can be implemented in other contexts. On a case-study basis it is hard to generalize the findings. While my research will examine the negotiation stage of policy formulation and implementation, analysing how different actors interact and the extent to which NGO's voice is heard in these processes, I wish to contribute in a small way to the better understanding on how non-state actors are crucial when defending the voices and interests of the civil society and bring burning topics to the agenda, which might be overlooked by the political elites. To gather data and analyse the role of NGOs in policy making, my thesis will use various methods, such as interpretative repertoire, document analysis, and potentially interviews, if time and opportunity allow it. The motivation for this topic arises from the growing populist sentiment and the desire to explore the potential role of civil society in addressing this trend. We can see more and more rising populist sentiments all over the world, and I believe this is an alarming sign to take action and learn as much as possible about ways we as the simple people can fight it.
