With the influx of migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, the state of Texas responded with the formation of Operation Lone Star in 2021, intending to combat illegal immigration, human trafficking, and drug trade. As part of the operation, the bussing program was endorsed in 2022 to relocate the flow of migrants from Texas to sanctuary cities up in northern democratic blue states. Therefore, this bachelor's thesis presents a research paper using content analysis to analyze the local media's reactions in northern democratic states concerning the relocation of migrants to their communities. This analysis sheds light on the portrayal, themes, and discourse in local media’s reaction as the bussing directly impacts local sanctuary communities. As immigration has been a long-standing topic for debate in the political sphere, local media plays an essential role as the distributor of information to the American public on political matters, along with shaping public opinion and perception.
