The main goal of the thesis is to perform measurements of energy consumption and execution time of different operations on a Tmote Sky sensor node, which is equipped with CC2420 radio transceiver, MSP430 microcontroller and ST M25P80 Flash memory. For the transceiver to measure: 1) energy consumption during the listening, receiving and sending states; 2) time needed to send and receive 1B of data. For the microcontroller to measure energy consumption in different power modes. For the external Flash memory to measure: 1) energy consumption while writing/reading 1B of data; 2) time needed to read/write 1B of data. The final (optional) task is to use the obtained measurements to estimate lifetime bounds of wireless sensor networks.
