Structured textual reports for an open-source project management tool
Anotace
Cieľom tejto bakalárskej práce je vyvinúť rozšírenie existujúceho open-source webového nástroja na správu projektov, ktoré umožňuje vytváranie a úpravu písomných hlásení na základe tabuľkových údajov a ľahko sa integruje so zvyškom systému.
Abstract
The goal of this thesis is to develop an extension to existing open-source project management tool that would allow creating and editing written reports based on tabular data and integrates smoothly with the rest of the system.
Zadání práce
Digital transformation demands a highly efficient platform for project work, business intelligence and enterprise insights. Unfortunately, the tool that many of us use to do the actual work - spreadsheets - hasn’t changed significantly since the 80s. Making matters worse, the business data are usually scattered all over various tools.
Legacy tools are less valuable for today’s modern business because the way teams work has dramatically shifted over the last three decades. In just a few short years, millions of workers have started to collaborate by utilizing some of the many different tools available. However, using multiple tools and different apps is problematic.
The goal of a newly created open-source project management tool is to provide a single solution to support current business models. This means providing various views of the same data to allow smooth communication, prevent duplication of effort and allow moving work forward in a seamless manner.
The goal of this thesis is to develop an extension to existing open-source project management tool that would allow creating and editing written reports based on tabular data. It will be a new visual perspective that integrates smoothly with the rest of the system that already allows seeing data in a table, calendar, timelines, chart, map etc.
The new perspective must take into account the entered data query and display each record as a paragraph of text. All linked records will be then subparagraphs etc.
The goal is to prevent the misuse of spreadsheets for creating structured reports because normal text processors cannot display reasonably large tables.
The student needs to study existing low-code development platforms (Coda.io, Airtable, Quip) and project management tools (Monday.com, ClickUp, Wrike, Zenkit) and figure out how they deal with displaying large structured textual data.
Next, the student should design a new visual perspective and implement it into the existing system (using the technologies the platform is already built on: Angular, TypeScript, Java EE, MongoDB). The implementation will be submitted as a pull-request to the existing code base.
Part of the thesis should be a user feedback on the newly created visual perspective.
