Thesis focus:
Performance of waste management policy (WMP) depends to the great extent on efficient waste separation at all levels, including individuals and households. Therefore, residents’ attitude towards municipal waste separation plays a significant role in the whole process. WMP can use different tools to motivate people to be more responsible in their waste separation behaviour and its design varies in different countries. Over the past few decades, Taiwan succeeded in achieving one of the highest rates of waste separation in the world and had already implemented particular elements of circular economy. Since the Waste Management Plan of the Czech Republic for the period 2015-2024 sets the transition to the circular economy as one of the main objectives, it seems beneficial to compare the Czech Republic’s and Taiwan’s WMP )including citizen’s perception), and investigate how design of these policies motivates people to take active part in waste separation.

Objective:
The main objective of this work is to indicate Taiwan and the Czech Republic residents’ subjective attitudes towards WMP and investigate how available WMP tools affect residents' motivation to separate municipal waste. This work will also provide citizen’s feedback on the WMP and their suggestions on how it can be further improved.

Methodology:
1. Theoretical description of waste management problem.
2. Description of waste management policy (WMP) in Taiwan and in the Czech Republic.
3. Data collection: interviews with residents of Taiwan who lived in the Czech Republic and resident of the Czech Republic who lived in Taiwan.
4. Data analysis, results and suggestions on WMP improvement.
5. Conclusion.
