The goal of this thesis is to design and implement a new web interface for the presentation of the collection of digitized maps, run and maintained by the researchers at the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Science. Their intention is to replace the current outdated solution with a modern one, with improved user-friendliness, accessibility, and overall effectiveness of the website.

The student will first examine in detail the current state and will interview the researchers at the Department of Geography to reveal the critical issues of the current solution. Then, he will design and implement the new solution, which will enable the users to display digitized historical maps queried via a selected geographical area in a web service map API, to filter the queried results of maps, and to visualize a digital scan of the historical globe collection.

The primary technologies used for this thesis will include the Figma design application for creating the visual design of the interface, and the REACT framework of the Typescript language and OpenStreetMap’s web service map API for the implementation of the proposed design. The created code will be publicly available in the IS under the MIT license.
