Indigenous people of North America have been subjugated by the Canadian and American governments through various means, including forced assimilative education. This thesis examines the federal boarding school systems in both countries and their impacts. Moreover, it focuses on 21st-century governmental efforts to reconcile with impacted Indigenous communities. The aim of this thesis is to compare Canadian and American approaches to reconciliation and assess their effectiveness in contributing to Indigenous healing through Indigenous responses.
