Simulation of real-world side-channel attacks on elliptic-curve cryptography
Anotace
Testovanie kryptografickej implementácie proti side-channel útokom, napríklad odberovej analýze, vyžaduje prístup k fyzickému zariadeniu na ktorom beží, náročný zber informácií zo side-channelov a implementáciu útoku. Tento proces je drahý a časovo náročný. Použitie emulátorov, ktoré simulujú únik cez side-channely, môže tento proces zlacniť a urýchliť. V tejto práci implementujeme side-channel leakage …více
Abstract
Testing a cryptographic implementation against side-channel attacks, such as power analysis, requires access to a physical device that executes it, collecting information from the side channels using a complicated setup and implementing the attack. This process is expensive and time-consuming. Using emulators that simulate side-channel leakage can make the process cheaper and faster. In this thesis …více
Zadání práce
Side-channel attacks, such as Differential Power Analysis or Simple Power Analysis require the collection of power or EM traces from a physical device using a complicated setup. Recently, there has been development on side-channel simulators which can simulate a leakage trace given a binary.
The student should research side-channel attacks on elliptic-curve cryptography, such as DPA and CPA, which they will then implement in the pyecsca toolkit. To have a simple way to evaluate the attacks the student should implement side-channel leakage simulation, using the Rainbow simulator as a basis on which a usable API should be designed. The student should also implement finite-field level leakage emulation using tracing already present in the toolkit. Finally, the functionality of both the attacks and the simulator should be evaluated by performing the attacks on a generated implementation of elliptic curve cryptography.
