This master's thesis investigates the use of face-threatening humor in interactions between Ryanair and its customers on Twitter. The research explores how this type of humor is employed by Ryanair, how it is interpreted by recipients, and its impact on the dynamics of these interactions. Employing the General Theory of Verbal Humor along with Tsakona's extended version, which includes two additional Knowledge Resources (KRs), this thesis conducts a pragmatic analysis of Ryanair's Twitter interactions that feature face-threatening humor. The primary objectives are to provide a detailed description of the strategies used by Ryanair, how they achieve a face-threatening effect, the typical activities and topics involved, the signaling of humor, and the devices employed. This study contributes to the field of humor pragmatics within the context of social media by analyzing the distinctive practices of a company known for its potentially aggressive or disaffiliative humor towards customers.
