Závěrečná práce: Bc. David Konečný: Acquisition of research data from specialised instruments
Diplomová práce
Acquisition of research data from specialised instruments
Anotace
Abstract
Modern scientific research is shaped by the increasing volumes of data generated by specialized measuring instruments. Scientific institutions must implement new robust data management workflows to complement initiatives such as Open Science and FAIR data. The implementation of these strategies includes the adoption of new tools, including Electronic Laboratory Notebooks (ELNs). Many existing Electronic …více
Zadání práce
The CEITEC research institute, established at Masaryk University, operates multiple shared laboratories and research groups where a significant amount of research data is generated using specialized equipment. In light of current Open Science and FAIR data initiatives, supported by projects such as EOSC, it is essential to have software that supports and complies with these initiatives’ requirements. The student will research existing systems to evaluate their suitability for full or partial adoption in the given environment.
The aim of this master’s thesis is to develop a new desktop application that enables the automatic collection of research data from specialized measuring instruments into a cloud-based system. These instruments often generate large volumes of data, which the application must efficiently upload, synchronize, and ensure data integrity. Additionally, each dataset must be registered in CEITEC Electronic Laboratory Notebook (DAREG). The desktop application must be configurable to accommodate the specific requirements of different shared laboratories or research groups.
The goals of the thesis are:
- Identifying and analyzing the functional and non-functional requirements of the application.
- Designing the application using mockups and UML diagrams to outline the system architecture.
- Modify DAREG to integrate with the new desktop application and accommodate new functionality.
- Selecting appropriate technologies, considering given constraints.
- Developing the desktop application using the selected technology.
- Design efficient and reliable synchronization of measured data from instrument to cloud storage.
- Testing the application on a selected laboratory device, including by staff and researchers.
