This bachelor's thesis aims to analyze modern adaptations of ancient Greek myths, which tend to appear in the 21st century in a form of successful novels. These modern retellings mostly focus on the inner motives of the characters from ancient myths and they bring them closer to modern reader's thinking and culture. Unlike in the original works; in the modern adaptations mostly women, whose point of view has remained unspoken for millennia, are the main characters of the stories. The thesis will mainly focus on the novels based on Homer's works and myths associated with those; and will compare them with new concepts of feminist criticism as presented in the adaptations. It will further try to stress the importance of these retellings, which reflect themes that are mirroring gender related topics of today, which have probably always been present; but can only now be highlighted and discussed also thanks these novels.
