The aim: The aim of the thesis is described, how and by what means are illegal activities on the art market being combated, and answer the question, what is the future of heritage protection? Methods and structure: This thesis discusses the history and protection of cultural heritage, both at the international and the national level, looking at Italy in particular. Various attempts made to secure preservation through use of a regulatory Framework will be discussed, from the 20th century to the present. At first, there will be desribed legislation in Italy, then at several international conventions in Europe, before finally examining attempts to establish a global regulatory framework. The methods of analysis and synthesis will be used in processing of this thesis, data and details will be get from literature, legislative documents and documents of executive power.
