Cílem diplomové práce je analýza a dekonstrukce diskurzu války proti terorismu, který se konstituoval v reakci na krizi představovanou útoky z 11. září 2001. Abstract

The aim of the presented thesis is to analyze and deconstruct the war on terror discourse which emerged in response to the crisis constituted by the attacks of September 11th, 2001. To this end, the research analyzes how the crisis was articulated by the Bush administration, and what linguistic and discursive techniques were used in the construction of identities. The thesis aims to analyze social construction of threat in the discourse of the United States foreign policy after September 11, 2001. Embracing the premises of social constructivism and methods of discourse analysis I intend to demonstrate how the U.S. administration securitized the notion of a terrorist threat and quickly transformed it into the concept of War on Terror. Such demonstration, together with the reasoning behind the initiation of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, will serve as an empirical basis of the thesis. The main aim is to deconstruct the representation of various threats and the impact thereof on U.S. foreign policy between September 2001 and March 2003. To achieve this, a discussion of lines of reasoning behind those policies will be required.
