The prerequisite is orientation in the Education of Students with Disorders of Intellectual Development as in the state final exam after bachelor's studies.

Course objectives
This course aims to present procedures in the education of children/pupils/students with the mild disorder of intellectual development and autism spectrum disorders, mainly in inclusive schools.
Learning outcomes
Students should make reasonable decisions for the placement of children/pupils/students with the mild disorder of intellectual development or autism spectrum disorder into the educational system and gain knowledge concerning specifics in education, counselling, diagnostics, and legislation.
Syllabus
  • 1. Terminology. ICD-11.
  • 2. Characteristics of a mild disorder of intellectual development. Characteristics of autism spectrum disorders (Asperger's syndrome). Support at school: causes, manifestations, solutions.
  • 3. Counselling services and the role of the special needs teacher in inclusive schools. Complexity of support.
  • 4. Educational program for preschool education, preparatory classes, and school maturity.
  • 5. Primary and secondary education. Support measures. Teaching equipment. Educational program.
  • 6. Differences in approaches to education in inclusive schools and schools established according to Section 16, Paragraph 9 of the Education Act.
  • 7. Comprehensive diagnostics. Special pedagogical and psychological diagnosis for mild disorder of intellectual development and autism spectrum disorders. Dynamic diagnostics.
  • 8. Didactic principles, methods and forms applied in the education from the counselling special needs teacher's point of view.
  • 9. Cooperation of the special needs teacher with the classroom teacher, school, and counselling facility.
  • 10. Feuerstein's instrumental enrichment and other educational approaches and comprehensive support.
  • 11. High school and lifelong education.
  • 15. Legislation.
