Course objectives
Few small nations have such a distinguished literature as the Czechs. This course looks at the main trends that have shaped Czech literature in the twentieth century, as well as the texts of many of the authors that have made it famous worldwide.
Syllabus
  • 1. Fictional and Factual Worlds. A Theoretical Introduction 2. Fictional and Factual Worlds of Modern Czech Literature 3. From Vision to Analysis: Literature in the 19th and the early 20th Centuries 4. The film Wild Flowers based on book Garland of National Legends will be presented 5. Poetism Playful and Optimistic Avantgarde Poetry between the Wars 6. The film Capricious Summer will be presented. 7. Two Worlds of Karel Čapek Mythology and Ordinary Life 8.
