Course objectives
The aim of the course is to teach students the principles of academic writing so that they are able to meet the content and formal requirements for this type of work. They will be directed to choose appropriate methods and information/data sources relevant to their final work, as well as to learn the core ethical principles of scientific work.
Students will be acquainted with the theoretical findings relevant to their thesis compilation and with the methods that will be required to address their chosen research question.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the student will be able to:
- define in detail the aims and research questions of their diploma thesis;
- propose a detailed procedure for the elaboration of the graduate thesis;
- select the relevant methods for processing the work;
- select relevant information and data sources;
- use the basic principles of professional text writing and source quotation;
- generalize and summarize published knowledge;
- present work in progress and results to date.
Syllabus
  • The content of the diploma seminar is based on individual consultations with the supervisor. The student's work consists mainly of a study of professional resources, conducting a literature review, collecting data and determining the next steps for a timely and successful completion of their graduate thesis.
  • At the end of the course, students will present and discuss the work in progress and any preliminary results in a group seminar.

Teaching methods
Teaching takes place in the form of lectures, individual student consultations with the supervisor of the diploma thesis and group seminars associated with the presentation and discussion of the diploma thesis.
Assessment methods
A condition of the credit is active participation in the group seminar and in individual consultations with the thesis supervisor, taking into account the progress made in the preparation of the thesis.
The essential requirement for the credit is the elaboration and defence of the thesis topic.
