- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to develop intercultural communicative competence in the environment of foreign language and intercultural cooperation, especially in the field of professional and business communication. Students will learn the basic concepts of intercultural communication and apply this knowledge in practice when performing team tasks in an international setting. The course also contributes to the development of linguistic and mediation skills in the chosen foreign language (English, French, Spanish) and promotes the ability to cooperate in a multicultural environment.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
explain the basic concepts and models of intercultural communication
apply the acquired knowledge in dealing with specific communication situations in an international environment
cooperate effectively in a multicultural team and contribute to successful teamwork
use a foreign language (English, French or Spanish) in authentic intercultural situations
mediate and interpret the meaning of cultural and linguistic differences through language mediation
reflect on their own attitudes and stereotypes related to intercultural communication. - Syllabus
- Virtual part (autumn semester 2025)
- Introduction to intercultural communication, introduction in teams (models of culture: Hall's iceberg model, Hofstede's dimension, small C culture and its role in intercultural interaction, language mediation and communication in international settings)
- Teamwork: Preparation of a joint project
- Presentation of team projects and peer feedback
- Presession part (January/February 2026)
- Practical workshops on intercultural cooperation
- Interactive language activities (English, French, Spanish)
- Social and cultural activities in Brno
- Reflection on the experience and final summary of the course
