Course objectives
Regional Economics and policy II (PRREII) The course aims to enhance the knowledge of space as an important economic category. In this respect the stress is put on the growing mutual interdependence of regions in the era of global economy (regional interdependence) and regional interpretation of economic growth theories. From the viewpoint of regional development or regional policy, the accent is on the issues of evaluation of competitive position of regions (in the context of localisation theory), international co-operation of small and medium firms and selected tools supporting regional development (investment offers, incentives, regional marketing). A synthetic approach is illustrated against the market-oriented strategy of regional development, taking into account the global dimension of economy. In exercise sessions, students are given a number of concrete examples from the Czech Republic and the EU countries. Credit requirements: active participation in seminars and seminar paper. Examination: oral.
