Course objectives
The aim of the Law and Information Systems is to provide students with information on legislation concerning relations which are created through using computers and communication systems, especially the Internet. The cross-disciplinary approach will enable us to deal with selected aspects of constitutional law, copyright law, financial law, administrative law and criminal law with special attention to specific use of certain institutes of commercial law and civil law. The topics will be supplemented with case studies from Czech and foreign legal practice. The aim of the thirteen lectures is to deliver necessary information to those who will use as well as create economic and other information systems.
Syllabus
  • Introduction to the law of information and communication systems, basic terminology data, information, system, software, database. Electronic communication act, internet phone calls. 2. The Internet basic technical and legal terminology, information society services act, connecting to the Internet, providers liability. 3. Protection of intellectual property and information systems, domains, unfair competition on the Internet, advertising, spamming. 4. Copyright protection of software and databases, copyright protection in the Internet environment, employees work. 5. Electronic documents, electronic legal relations, electronic signature. 6. Right to information and its constitutional basis, information systems in public administration, registers, internet democracy. 7. Personal data protection in information systems and the Internet. 8. Business in the area of information technologies, e-business, consumer contracts, outsourcing. 9. Safety of information systems; software, hardware, and data protection legal, technical, institutional. Pledge of confidentiality. E-mail monitoring. 10. Current issues of computer and Internet criminality, the question of proving. 11. Current sources of legal information on the Internet, presentation of CELEX (European law). 12. Information ethics. 13. Summary and actualization of the covered issues.

Assessment methods (in Czech)
Zkouška je ústní a skládá se ze dvou částí. Na začátku semestru si studenti vyberou témata ke zpracování ve formě PowerPointové prezentace. Prezentace bude hodnocena a bude součástí konečné známky. Druhá část hodnocení bude výsledkem ústní zkoušky v rámci řádného zkouškového období.
