Course objectives
The course Financial Investment is focused on fundamental principles of investment and investment instruments, their specifics and investing too. Opening part is devoted to investment and investment strategies, active and passive investment and its products. The next parts of the course are focused on investing in stocks, bonds, currencies, financial derivatives and real assets. Then students become familiar with collective investment, alternative investment, introduction to portfolio theory and financial investment in the Czech Republic and in the wordl.
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- describe the advantages and drawbacks of financial products;
- define the current trends in investment;
- compare active and passive investment;
- characterize individual passive investment products;
- describe individual investment strategies;
- characterize investing in stocks, bonds, currencies, financial derivatives, real assets, collective investment and alternative investment;
- define the basics of the modern portfolio theory;
- summarize basic principles of diversification.

Assessment methods
The course has a form of lectures. A submitted semester paper (POT) will be assessed either passed or failed. Requirements for admission to the test are the following: - submission of semester paper (POT) assessed as passed. - completing assigned questionnaires. The course is completed by a written test. Any copying, recording or leaking tests, use of unauthorized tools, aids and communication devices, or other disruptions of objectivity of exams (credit tests) will be considered non-compliance with the conditions for course completion as well as a severe violation of the study rules. Consequently, the teacher will finish the exam (credit test) by awarding grade "F" in the Information System, and the Dean will initiate disciplinary proceedings that may result in study termination.
