- Course objectives
- The course builds on the subjects Insurance and Risk management in insurance. It aims to acquaint students with the management of insurance companies and its specifics under the conditions of insurance market in the Czech Republic. with economics of an insurance company. It deals with economic aspects of insurance companies’ business with the emphasis on technical provisions creation, investment activities, solvency, management and financial analysis of insurance companies. It explains the marketing management of insurance companies, selected market strategies in the process of strategic management, business activity and information systems used in the insurance business. The tutorial aims at students’ knowledge expansion by findings in the area of the management of insurance companies and basic aspects of functioning of the insurance companies‘ economy. It learns the basic factors affecting the competitiveness of commercial insurance companies as business entities. Students are able to acquire skills to be familiar with operating results of commercial insurance companies through the financial statements, master the requirements for adequate capital facilities and obeying rules in the sphere of technical provisions investment. Students will also get an overview of means of communication with clients when explaining the relationship management with users of insurance services.
- Syllabus
- Lecture (tutorial) topics: 1. Economic and legal aspects of insurance companies’ business in the insurance market of the Czech Republic. 2. Management of insurance companies in terms of the insurance market, functions of the insurance company, managerial functions. 3. Strategical, tactical and operational management of insurance companies. Specifics of insurance companies’ management in the insurance market of the Czech Republic. 4. The organizational structure of insurance companies, major tasks and the scope of activities of the insurance company’s economic section. 5. Economic aspects of insurance business, technical reserves creation, investment activity of insurance companies. 6. Capital facilities of insurance companies, capital stock, solvency of insurance companies, Solvency II, economic equilibrium of insurance. 7. Management of insurance companies, incomes, expenses and operating result, content of the annual report of insurance companies. 8. Financial analysis of insurance companies, classification of ratio indicators, audit and rating of insurance companies. 9. Marketing management of insurance companies, marketing analysis, definition of the mission, goals and strategy, marketing planning, implementation and control of the marketing plan. 10. Selected market strategies in the process of strategic management of insurance companies. 11. Public relations and insurance institutions. Customer Relationship Management (CRM). 12. Business activity of the commercial insurance company. Psychology of selling insurance products. 13. Information system and technology in activities of commercial insurance companies. Seminar topics: 1. Familiarization with seminar content, seminar works topics and requirements for seminar works processing and presentation. Making up teams and seminar works assignment. 2. The current legislative framework in the insurance business within the European Union and the Czech Republic. Comparison of the problem in the Czech Republic with selected EU member states. 3. Analysis of exercising the operational and personnel function in selected insurance companies in the insurance market of the Czech Republic. Theoretical approaches to leadership and their application into the conditions of insurance companies. 4. Analysis of trends (in the time frame of 5 years minimum) of the strategic level of management in selected insurance companies using their annual reports. 5. Analysis and comparison of organizational structures of selected commercial insurance companies within the Czech Republic and the EU, with an emphasis on the economic section. 6. Check test No. 1. 7. Comparison of the financial placement of insurance companies in connection with the technical provisions creation and investment activities in the life and general insurance. 8. Up-to-date findings of the Solvency II application in selected insurance companies in the Czech Republic and the EU. 9. Analysis and comparison of the management of selected insurance companies in the insurance market of the Czech Republic and the EU with an emphasis on financial groups. 10. Check test No. 2. 11. Analysis of marketing means of management in selected insurance companies with an emphasis on the definition of goals and means of communication with clients. 12. Analysis and comparison of the distribution of insurance products with an emphasis on the trade network organization at all levels of management of selected insurance companies in the Czech Republic and the EU. 13. - Assessment methods
- Lectures and seminars proceed contentually in accordance with the mentioned topics range. Seminars are divided into thirteen blocks. Check tests No. 1-3, scheduled in the 6th, 10th and 13th week, are obligatory with imposed minimal limit of success. The course is finished by a written test. The final mark constitutes of: the Final test (60%) + the Seminar work, POT (20%) + Check tests (20%).
