Abstract
Students will learn how selected advanced operating system topics covered in PB152 are used in practice and how higher level runtime libraries use them.
Learning outcomes
Student will learn to understand how operating system APIs work, how are they invoked and used by higher level programming languages and frameworks (Python, ISO C).
Key topics
  • Operating system API surfaces
  • Dynamic Linker (shared libraries)
  • Virtual memory management, shared memory, memory mapped files and their use in practice
  • I/O with advanced operations
  • Error Handling
  • Processes and multitasking (multithreading)
  • Concurrency and Parallelism
  • Asynchronous operations
Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
  • Lectures and commented practical examples presented live.
  • Practical exercises solved by small student teams (2-3 people) submitted to GitLab and evaluated by AI agents.
  • Common mistakes from all solutions will be anonymously collected and discussed in the next lecture.
  • Successful exercise submission will reduce the scope of the final exam.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
  • Practical hands-on exam with practical coding exercises in controlled environment with all required tools, VS Code, limited Internet access and pre-configured AI coding agent.
  • Students will not be able to pick a particular AI coding agent, harness or model and have to rely on the provided configuration only.
  • Use of AI coding agent is optional and up to the student.
Language of instruction
Czech
