Course objectives
The course is focused to analysis, design and development of geographic information systems (GIS), to modeling of corresponding business processes, functions and data. The course describes basic phases of GIS projects and processes of project management with an accent to differences between GIS and general information system. At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain phases of GIS projects; work with information on GIS project methods.

  • - Data and data models in GIS
  • - Common processes in GIS
  • - Basic functions in GIS
  • - Data management – methods and strategies
  • - Data quality - quality assurance (QA), quality control (QC)
  • - Data capturing and data update
  • - Data migration
  • - Analytical functions
  • - Output from GIS – generation of thematic maps
  • - GIS standardization - standards of Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), EU directive INSPIRE, standards in Czech Republic
