Course objectives
The aim of the First Aid course is to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills in first aid in various common and life-threatening situations. Students will be able to identify emergency situations, perform critical analysis and respond appropriately in accordance with the latest first aid procedures and standards. Emphasis will be placed on rapid and effective response, teamwork and ethical principles. Course topics respect the characteristics of the Coaching and Movement and Health fields of study.
Learning outcomes
The student will be able to:
- remeber the key principles of first aid, including the rules of calling for help and ensuring safety;
- identify the risks associated with first aid including the in-water environment;
- list life-saving actions;
- differentiate between unconsciousness with preserved vital signs and a condition where cardiopulmonary resuscitation is necessary;
- perform adult, child, infant and post-drowning resuscitation;
- change the resuscitation scenario if an AED is in place;
- stop life-threatening bleeding;
- recognise from the mechanism of injury the severity of potential damage to the body and respond appropriately;
- treat typical musculoskeletal injuries;
- deduce from the symptoms the probable type of non-traumatic condition and respond appropriately to the situation;
- treat heat and cold injuries;
- expel the foreign body when aspirated using a technique depending on the age of the casualty;
- discuss ways to prevent the occurrence of an injury or non-accident in school, sport enviroment or in the pool in everyday life.
Syllabus
  • 1. General principles of first aid and first aid risks.
  • 2. External and internal bleeding, shock development.
  • 3. Unconsciousness. Resuscitation Guidelines GL2021.
  • 4. Practical training in resuscitation according to GL 2021.
  • 5. Rautek's recovery position, foreign body aspiration, drowning issues.
  • 6. Use of first aid kit, contents of first aid kit, basic pharmacology and potential risks with WADA lists of banned substances.
  • 7. Cold related emergencies.
  • 8. Heat related emergencies.
  • 9. Poisoning and chemical burns, damage by animals.
  • 10. Musculoskeletal injuries, spinal injuries. Amputation.
  • 11. Non-traumatic conditions.
  • 12. Positioning in first aid.

Theoretical and practical seminars focused on teaching first aid and resuscitation
Self-study - e-learning and interactive curriculum
Assessment methods
2 midterm tests (25 questions, 23 correct answers to pass)
oral examination - practical and theoretical part
If the student gets 46 correct answers from the two midterm tests, does not have to take the theoretical part of the oral exam.
