- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to provide a basic orientation in the field of sociology of sport and in the sphere of sport ethics (including the philosophical foundations of ethics). The focus of the course prefers the direct practical impact of sport and physical activity on contemporary society and takes into account its ethical dimension.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- identify the sociological basis of kinanthropology and the main social impacts of sport in a broader context;
- understand the philosophical underpinnings for the ethics of sport (consequentialist, deontological perspective, virtue ethics) and their relevance to the assessment of ethical dilemmas;
- put into context the historical knowledge of Olympism and its main ethical principles (areté, kalokagathia) and their relevance to contemporary sport;
- discuss ethical issues in sport;
- analyse the impact of sport (on a societal and group scale) on society;
- discuss the meaningfulness of physical activities in the context of performance-oriented sport and non-performance physical activities (including selected aspects of recreationology);
- analyse the health aspects and impacts of physical activity in the context of sociology and philosophy. - Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to the subject, organization of teaching, requirements for completing the subject. 2. Fundamentals of sociology and ethics in kinanthropology. 3. Society and health. 4. Sociology of sport. 5. Ethics in sport. 6. Ethical issues of Olympism. 7. Gender issues in sport. 8. Socialization through sport. 9. Social group. 10. Sport for development. 11. Athlete-fan relationship. 12. Principles of ethics of relationships and cooperation in helping professions. 13. Discussion on a selected topic for ethical or sociological reflection.
