Course objectives
The subject aims to provide students with the practical experience needed for professional work in nutrition counselling for specific groups. After completing the course, students can apply theoretical knowledge in practice, conduct consultation sessions with clients, and design individual meal plans.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- understand the basic principles of nutrition and their application in various situations, including diagnostics, assessment of nutritional status and goal setting;
- recognise the specific dietary needs of different population groups - children, pregnant women, seniors, etc.;
- apply the latest trends and diets in nutrition, and critically assess them;
- analyse the nutritional status of the client and evaluate his eating habits;
- plan and design individual meal plans for the different needs and goals of clients;
- communicate with clients and motivate them to change their eating habits.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the subject - requirements for completing the internship, familiarisation with the internship agenda and required documents, and list of internship providers.
  • 2. Familiarization with the operation of the nutrition counselling centre and the composition of employees and clients. Insight into administration and documentation management. Familiarisation with work safety and the necessary training according to the workplace.
  • 3. Preview/hearing practice in a nutrition counselling centre - cooperation with an accompanying trainer.
  • 4. Cooperation with the accompanying trainer - joint diagnostics, client management and feedback.
  • 5. Individual work with the client(s) - initial diagnosis and determination of intervention goals, communication and client motivation.
  • 6. Individual work with client(s) - planning and implementation of interventions.
  • 7. Individual work with the client(s) - client feedback, trainer feedback, practice evaluation.
  • 8. Evaluation of practice - elaboration of output - presentation and defence of results and case reports from practice.

Teaching methods
- Preparation for practice - discussion with students - requirements and content of practice, list of cooperating workplaces;
- Individual cooperation with the selected workplace - approaching, establishing cooperation, participating in consultation meetings with the client;
- Student's independent work;
- Evaluation of practice - presentation of a nutrition plan followed by an open discussion.
Assessment methods
- 100% participation in Practice Preparation and Practice Evaluation;
- Individual cooperation with the institution for two weeks - mandatory 100% attendance at practice;
- Submitting the Confirmation of Completion of Internship and Consent to Placing the Student on Internship to the Internship Agenda at IS MU;
- Final presentation and defence of the output and case studies from practice - guarantor evaluation, peer evaluation with open discussion.

The student submits all outputs and case reports from the practice to the Practice Agenda in IS MU; simultaneously, these documents are part of the Portfolio with which the student will proceed to the State Final Examination.
