Course objectives
The subject aims to provide students with the professional knowledge and skills needed to advise on a healthy lifestyle for children, youth and the population with risk predispositions to developing civilisation diseases. Students will be able to identify clients' individual needs and design a personal exercise and nutrition plan to support a healthy lifestyle.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- identify the needs of clients concerning their lifestyle;
- create individual activity plans to support clients' lifestyle changes;
- communicate and involve the family in the process of supporting a healthy lifestyle;
- monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the advice provided and the results achieved;
- critically evaluate cooperation and work procedures;
- prepare the basis of the final bachelor's thesis from the obtained data.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction to the subject - requirements for completing the internship, familiarisation with the internship agenda and required documents, and list of internship providers.
  • 2. Introduction to working with the client - defining the goals of working with the athlete and the client, ethical principles in professional practice.
  • 3. Familiarization with the operation of a sports club or fitness centre and the composition of employees and clients. Insight into administration and documentation management. Familiarisation with work safety and the necessary training according to the workplace.
  • 4. Individual work with the client(s) - initial diagnosis and determination of intervention goals, communication and motivation of clients, planning and implementation of interventions, feedback from clients, trainers and evaluation of joint work
  • 5. Proposal of a comprehensive regeneration plan based on the phase of the annual training cycle, needs and goals of the athlete.
  • 6. Working with the client - 6-week individual intervention with the selected client - keeping records and monitoring the client's progress.
  • 7. Evaluation of achieved results and evaluation of achieved goals.
  • 8. Preparation of the client's summary file - input and output data, their evaluation and the proposal of a preventive plan.
  • 9. Presentation of the case study in front of the group and subsequent discussion of the achieved results. Sharing personal experiences from work with the client.

Teaching methods
- Individual consultation with the teacher and supervisor of the bachelor's thesis;
- Preparation for practice - discussion with students - requirements and content of practice, list of cooperating workplaces;
- Individual cooperation with the selected workplace (sports club) - approaching, establishing cooperation, and participation in consultation meetings with the client;
- Student's independent work;
- Evaluation of practice - presentation of output and case studies from practice followed by open discussion and peer evaluation.
Assessment methods
- 100% participation in Practice Preparation and Practice Evaluation;
- Individual cooperation with the institution for six weeks - mandatory 100% attendance at practice;
- Submitting the Confirmation of Completion of Internship and Consent to Placing the Student on Internship to the Internship Agenda at IS MU;
- Final presentation and defence of the output and case studies from practice - evaluation by the trainer, peer evaluation with open discussion.

The student submits all outputs and case reports from the practice to the Practice Agenda in IS MU; simultaneously, these documents are part of the Portfolio with which the student will proceed to the State Final Examination.
