- Abstract
- The aim of the course Athletics I is to provide students with basic theoretical knowledge and to develop practical skills in athletics. The course focuses on the acquisition of correct running techniques from low, semi-low and semi-high starts (step and swing running techniques), mastering the fundamental elements of running drills, and performing specific running and hurdling exercises. The curriculum also includes hurdling in three-step, four-step and five-step rhythms, baton passing using underhand and overhand techniques, and the correct technique of the cricket ball throw. Furthermore, students become familiar with the basic rules of the athletics disciplines covered and with the principles of safety in athletics instruction.
- Learning outcomes
- After successful completion of the subject Track and Field I student will be able to:
- apply the correct technique of drive and stride phase, starts,
- demonstrate the correct technique of elementary, running and hurdle drills,
- use the correct technique of hurdle running (3-step and 4-step, 5-step rhytm),
- practise relay exchange (up-sweep and down-sweep),
- manage correct technique of throwing with a cricet ball
- analyze (and critically evaluate) the most frequently occurring errors in technique perform the above mentioned events,
- demonstrate knowledge of basic rules mentioned Track and Field events and safety on lessons.

Course completion (credit) is awarded based on:

active participation in practical classes (one absence is permitted),

the ability to demonstrate three randomly selected elements of the running and hurdling drills,

hurdling over five hurdles using three-step, four-step, and five-step rhythms (youth hurdle heights),

correct technical execution of the swing running technique and the step running technique ,
-
correct technique of the cricket ball throw,
-
successful completion of a written test or meeting the required performance standard.
