Prerequisites

  • Basic physical fitness sufficient for completing a full-day hike in moderately hilly terrain (approx. 10–15 km).
  • Suitable outdoor footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather.
  • Willingness to participate in outdoor activities even in less favorable conditions.
  • Ability to travel independently to the meeting point as instructed by the course instructor.

    Abstract
  • introduce students to the fundamental principles of hiking and outdoor movement,
  • develop basic orientation skills in natural environments (map reading, trail markings),
  • promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyle habits through regular walking in nature,
  • strengthen teamwork and responsible planning of outdoor activities.
  • Learning outcomes
    Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:
  • explain the essential principles of safe and efficient hiking,
  • navigate using a tourist map and understand Czech trail marking systems,
  • independently plan a one-day hiking trip with regard to distance, time, and current conditions,
  • assess their own physical capabilities and adjust the activity plan accordingly.
  • Key topics
      • The course consists of three full-day hiking trips in areas within commuting distance of Brno (by public transport).
      • Specific dates of trips are fixed and listed according to the chosen seminar group in the university schedule.
      • Detailed information about each trip (route, meeting point, departure time) will be sent via email at least 7 days in advance.
      • Trips take place in all weather conditions. In case of extreme weather, routes may be shortened or otherwise modified.

    Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
    hiking trips
    Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
    Credit for the course is granted upon 100% active physical participation in all hiking trips assigned to the registered seminar group. In cases of serious and pre-approved excuses (e.g., illness), it is possible to make up a missed trip by agreement with the instructor. The make-up hike may be completed within another seminar group listed in the university information system.

    Information on course enrolment limitations: Minimální počet studentů přihlášených do seminární skupiny je 12.
    Teacher's information
    Classes take place on the dates listed in the MUNI Information System schedule. By enrolling in this course, students acknowledge that they are responsible for covering their own transportation costs to and from the hiking trips in the Brno area, as well as any related expenses.

    In the event that classes are cancelled by the instructor (e.g. due to illness or organizational reasons), the classes will be made up in the 13th week of the semester.
