Course objectives
Lecture:
The main purpose of this subject is to receive the basic knowledge from the physical therapy. At the end of the course students should be able to use them in prevention, diagnostic and treatment of the muskuloskeletal system.
Students get to know biophysical and physiological principles of physical therapy methods, especially phototherapy and electrotherapy.
They should be able to make reasoned decision about indication and contraindication of physical therapy methods.

Exercise:
Students get to know practical skills during hydropathic procedure applications with each other and to patients.
These skills students obtain at the professional workplace with physical therapy specialist.
Syllabus
  • Lecture:
  • Phototherapy with unpolarized light - a definition, general effects, indication, contraindication, effects principles, dividing.
  • Ultraviolet light - UVA, UVB, UVC.
  • Infrared light - IRA, IRB, IRC.
  • Phototherapy with polarized light.
  • Laser.
  • Biolamp.
  • Electrotherapy - main terms, dividing, general indication and contraindication.
  • Contact electrotherapy.
  • Therapy with galvanic electricity.
  • Static galvanization.
  • Hydrogalvanization.
  • Electrotherapeutic tub.
  • Iontophoresis.
  • Low-frequency electricity - dividing, terminology.
  • Exercise:
  • Sanitary code, hydrotherapy equipment.
  • Labour protection.
  • Whirpool bath - all or part of the body.
  • Underwater massage.
  • Scotch hose.
  • Kneipp treatments.
  • Thalassotherapy, Iodine-Grine therapy, mineral baths.
  • Peloid wraps - all or part of the body.
  • Paraffin wraps.
  • Therapeutic exercise in the water (in the swimming pool too).
