Course objectives
At the end of the course students will understand rules of ice hockey, their interconnection and context and will be able to apply them in the game. Students will analyse the specific situations presented in video clips, propose solutions, apply the rules of ice hockey and justify the correct procedure of the referee. The concrete game situations are presented both by the teacher and by students as a term paper. For this purpose, students must also demonstrate basic technical knowledge of video clip making, cutting, formatting and presenting. Understanding and applying rules is important for further studies of specialization of the refereeing, especially for referee movement, signalling, referee co-operation, and match management. Upon completion of this course the student will be able to understand further courses of related subjects. At the same time, students gain information and knowledge that he can later be used in lecturers for players, coaches and other ice hockey officials. Students will be able to better understand the game, read its development and complexity. Part of the lectures will be the continuity of the rules into the regulations of the Czech Ice Hockey Association, as well as the exceptions and adaptation to the Rules for Home Competitions.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to: - explain the importance of rules for ice hockey, - apply the rules of ice hockey as a game official in different positions (two-judge system, linesman in three-men system, of-ice game official, minihockey referee); - solve on one's own responsibility various rules situations occurring during ice hockey game, - both in co-operation with colleagues and independently officiate as a referee an ice hockey match, - explain the differences between the International Ice Hockey Federation rules and the NHL rules, - present as a lecturer the rules of ice hockey to players, coaches or other participants of the match, - understand further teaching of techniques, co-operation and signalling of ice hockey game officials.

  • Link to Course Management 1 - Ice Hockey Rules I. Types of sentences, way of storing, serving, terminating, differences between sentences. Fouls and other misconduct, their characteristics, the possibility of penalties, the differentiation of misconduct, the influence on the game and the atmosphere of the game. Specific rules for goalkeepers. Apply rules in different situations, find solutions in situations where more violations occur.

Self-study: The most difficult part of the curriculum will be lectured in each area, assignments for self-study and preparation for another lesson. Task checking is ongoing and is also included in the final exam.
