Course objectives

The course introduces students to the evolution, current state and main problems of international monetary institutions. During the course a major emphasis is given to interdisciplinary politico-economic approach.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students should be able to: understand and explain the current world financial architecture; identify the most important processes and problems, which the major world monetary institutions face (external adjustment, debt crisea etc.); understand both their economic and political dimensions; suggest their politicaly and economically workable solutions and be aware of their consequences.

Teaching methods

The course consists of lectures and class discussion. There will be five seminars during the semester. The goals of the seminars are: discussion of the issues introduced in the lectures, application of the acquired theoretical tools to the real world phenomena. Each seminar has one or two main themes. The discussion in the class requires familiarization with compulsory readings.

Assessment methods

1. Oral examination. To apply for the examination students have to obtain at least 20 points throughout the semester.
2. Participation in seminars, max. 20 points
3. Position papers, max. 15 points.
