- Course objectives
- The course focuses on the possibilities to use ICT in social sciences in general with particular attention to research in the fields of security and military. It presents possibilities in data gathering and processing and coflict simulations. Participants acquire basic skills in the area of using ICT when researching security, and an overview of the possibilities of applications of these technologies.

- 1. Information society. General theory. Introduction.
- 2. Database, communication, cooperation, simulation software.
- 3. Data mining.
- 4. Databases (scientific, security). Sources accessible from the net of MU.
- 5. Communication, cooperation – theories, techniques.
- 6. Simulation and strategic games.
- 7. Examples of bigger individual projects.
- 8. Systems, data and artificial intelligence.
- 9. Current state in the field of research and application of information technologies at BSS.
- 10. Using information and communication technologies in practice.
- 11. Current state of information technologies application in the state and security spheres (simulations -- police, intelligence, military)

- Assessment methods
- The course consists of a seminar and a lecture.
Students must submit a paper and participate actively in seminars in order to complete the course successfully. A written exam is to be passed at the end of the course. Maximum of 100 points can be obtained at the exam. At least 60 points must be obtained in order to pass. Evaluation: 0-59 = F, 60-68 = E, 69-77 = D, 78-86 = C, 87-94 = B, 94-100 = A. - Language of instruction
