Course objectives
This interactive course (workshop) covers the various forms (kinds) of interview in the print media. Via a set of tests and stylistic exercises students discover their ability to apply their (earlier acquired) knowledge in practice. They will learn how to carry out thorough text improvement – using a collection of authentic journalistic interview texts. They will also undertake more detailed stylistical part-exercises. Team work forms an important part of the teaching method.
Syllabus
  • 1. Analysis of news (sports) interview. Associated stylistic part-exercises. Text creation: talk with first-year student at FSS MU (homework).
  • 2. Analysis of news (sports) interview. Associated stylistic part-exercises. Text creation: questionnaire (freely after M. Proust – homework).
  • 3. Analysis of profile. Associated stylistic part-exercises. Text creation: self-interview.
  • 4. Analysis of profile interview. Associated stylistic part-exercises. Text creation: Interview with historical (no longer living) personality (politician, philosopher, scientist, artist, literary or film personage, etc. - homework).
  • 5. Analysis of news interview (student assignments). Associated stylistic part-exercises.
  • 6. Analysis of news interview (student assignments). Associated stylistic part-exercises.

  • 8. Most common errors (analysis of authentic texts – print media). Text creation (talk with family member on the topic ‘what we never told each other before, what I don’t know about you’).
  • 9. Talk techniques – training. Research: creating a set of questions on the text.
  • 10. Gutter press variant – serious stylistic choices. Analysis of authentic texts.
  • 11. Preparing talk for final test. Justifying one's choice, tutorial covering the set of questions.
